Daoist meditation accounts of invites to leave the world, opened Dr. Mike since young in a deep way to yin yang dimensions of traditional Chinese culture.
Grandmaster Yang Sau Chung (Yang Shou Zhong) 楊守中 (1910-1985) was the 4th generation eldest son of Yang Cheng Fu 楊澄甫 (1883-1936), the individual responsible for making Tai Chi Chuan 太極拳 famous throughout the world.
Grandmaster Gong Bao Zhai (1904-2000) was the 4th generation cloak and bowl descendant of Gong Bao Tian, disciple of Yin Fu and his successor as the last personal bodyguard to the Empress Dowager in the Forbidden City.
While neither were widely known during their lifetimes, both stated to Dr. Mike Yuen a common thread of acknowledging their common Shengren origins. For Tai Chi it was Zhang San Feng of Wudang Monastery and for Ba Gua it was FuXi founder of 8 trigrams.

course work is based on special insights Dr. Mike Yuen 阮立武 gained from personally receiving advanced corrections from Yang Sau Chung as a young man while a student of Yang Sau Chung's second disciple, Chu Ginsoon. offers a refreshing vantage point to understanding and cultivating the traditional enlightened mindset and method.
To demystify and help make the deep Yang Tai Chi teachings more accessible, Dr. Mike has simplified the presentation, reducing the family's enigmatic animal styles framework to just two. He did this to highlight the system's "layered" character and to illustrate what he considers advanced Tai Chi's most important feature: that the system consists not so much of separate forms but of "different treatments of the same form."
He named the way he learned from Ginsoon Chu and the way he learned from Yang Sau Chung the Square and Angle methods, respectively. To help demystify the Yangs' proprietary JI Power Pressing internal power-building method and the place it played in overall Tai Chi development, he identified the main objective of Ginsoon's Square solo form practice as structural strengthening. By comparison, based on his direct experience with Yang Sau Chung, the essential use of the forward-leaning Angle Method is to develop skills for external use (self-defense and combat).
To address the public's overarching desire for a system-level understanding of traditional Yang Tai Chi, Dr. Mike formulated a "Seven Level Training" that embodies all the steps from beginning to end-stage attainment. The seven levels provide the meta-framework for all courses he teaches.
